Returning to the foot of the altar, the Priest makes the sign of the cross to recall that the unbloody Sacrifice which he is about to offer is a renewal of the Sacrifice of Calvary.
In a low voice he begins the antiphon "Introibo ad altare Dei" ("I will go unto the altar of God...") followed by Psalm 42: "Judica me, Deus..." ("Judge me, O God...").
The Master of Ceremonies, on behalf of all the faithful, answers the Priest with alternate verses of the Psalm.
