Moving to the south side of the altar (known as the "Epistle" side). The Priest intones (sings) one or more Collects proper to the day. These prayers gather the desires of the faithful and request special graces appropriate to the specific day of the Church's year.
During greater festivals only one Collect is used. On other days there will be a total of three.
