Bowing profoundly before the altar, the Priest prepares himself to preach the Gospel with the prayer "Munda cor meum" ("Cleanse my heart and my lips") and then asks for a blessing with the words "Jube, Domine, benedicere" ("Pray, Lord, a blessing").
At a Solemn Mass the Deacon kneels at the top step of the altar to recite the "Munda cor meum" and asks the Priest for a blessing with the words "Jube, Domne, Benedicere" ("Pray, Sir, a blessing") to which the Priest responds "Dominus sit in corde tuo" ("May the Lord be in thine heart...").
During this preparation, the altar servers assemble before the altar with the missal, incense and candles.
