The Priest pours some wine into the chalice. He blesses some water with the sign of the cross and then pours it into the chalice. He recites the prayer "Deus, qui humanę" ("O God, Who in a wonderful manner didst create and ennoble human nature...")
According to the Council of Tibur, the water added to the chalice represents the faithful, who will be united to Christ during Communion.
