Oblation of the Chalice

Returning to the centre of the altar, the Priest offers the chalice to God with the prayer "Offerimus tibi, Domine" ("We offer unto Thee, O Lord the chalice of salvation...").

Oblation of the Faithful

The Priest places the chalice on the Altar and, bowing slightly, he offers himself to God together with all the faithful who are offering the sacrifice with him, saying the prayer "In spiritu humilitatis" ("In the spirit of humility and with a contrite heart...").

Prayer to the Holy Ghost

The Priest calls down the Holy Ghost whose powerful operation is necessary to bring about the change of bread and wine to the Body and Blood of Christ.  He makes a plea for blessing over the gifts with the prayer "Veni sanctificator" ("Come, O Sanctifier, almighty and eternal God...")
