Incensing of the Priest

Returning the thurible to the Master of Ceremonies (or the Deacon at Solemn Mass) the Priest recites the prayer "Accendat in nobis" ("May the Lord enkindle within us the fire of His love...").

The Priest is then incensed, followed by the servers and then the faithful.  As a mark of courtesy and filial love, each incensation is preceded and followed by a bow, first from by the thurifer and then by the person(s) being incensed.

The "Lavabo" or Washing of Hands

Meanwhile, a server pours water over the Priest's fingers as he recites Psalm 25, verses 6-12: "Lavabo inter innocentes" ("I will wash my hands among the innocent...").  The server offers a small linen towel for the Priest to dry his fingers.
