The Mass in Words and Pictures

Elevation and Adoration of the Host

The Priest elevates the Sacred Host for the people adore and then genuflects again. Photograph © Society of Saint Pius X 2003.

The Priest reverently lifts the Host so that the faithful can adore Christ's Body now present before them.  A partial indulgence is granted to all those who, looking at the Host, repeat the words "Dominus meus et Deus meus" or "My Lord and my God".

Where incense is used, the Host is incensed by the thurifer to emphasise the honour which is due to Christ in the Sacrament.

Placing the Host back on the altar, the Priest genuflects again.
