The Mass in Words and Pictures

Consecration and Adoration of the Precious Blood

The Priest genuflects in adoration immediately after consecrating the Precious Blood. Photograph © Society of Saint Pius X 2003.

The Priest reverently lifts the chalice above the altar and continues the Consecration with the prayer "Simili modo" ("In like manner, when the supper was over...").  Bowing profoundly over the altar he pronounces the words of Consecration "Hic est enim Calix Sanguinis mei..." ("For this is the chalice of My Blood of the New and Eternal Covenant; the Mystery of Faith; which shall be shed for you and for many, unto the forgiveness of sins...")

A bell is rung three times as the Priest genuflects in adoration.
