Immediately before the principal Sunday Mass, the celebrant, wearing a cope and accompanied by his ministers, intones at the foot of the altar the "Asperges me" and the then sprinkles the altar, the clergy and people with holy water, saying in a low voice the psalm "Miserere". (During Paschaltide, "Asperges me" and "Miserere" is replaced by "Vidi Aquam" and "Confitemini").

mei, Deus, secundum magnam misericordiam tuam. V. Gloria Patri, et Filio, et
Spiritui Sancto. R. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc et semper, et in sęcula
sęculorum. Amen. Ant: Asperges me, Domine, hyssopo et mundabor: lavabis me, et
