Asperges Me - Before the Principal Sunday Mass
(Except from Easter Sunday to Trinity Sunday inclusive)

Immediately before the principal Sunday Mass, the celebrant, wearing a cope and accompanied by his ministers, intones at the foot of the altar the "Asperges me" and the then sprinkles the altar, the clergy and people with holy water, saying in a low voice the psalm "Miserere".  (During Paschaltide, "Asperges me" and "Miserere" is replaced by "Vidi Aquam" and "Confitemini").

ASPERGES me, * Domine, hyssopo et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor. Ps 50, 3.  Miserere mei, Deus,  secundum magnam misericordiam tuam.  V.  Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.  R.  Sicut erat in principio, et nunc et semper, et in sęcula sęculorum.  Amen.  Ant: Asperges me, Domine, hyssopo et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor.

(The Gloria Patri is omitted in Passiontide).

V.  Ostende nobis, Domine, misericordiam tuam. (Alleluia.)

R.  Et salutare tuum da nobis. (Alleluia.)

V.  Domine, exaudi orationem meam.

R.  Et clamor meus at te veniat.

V.  Dominus Vobiscum.

R.  Et Cum Spiritu tuo.

THOU shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, O Lord, and I shall be cleansed; Thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.  Ps:  Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Thy great mercy.  V.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.  R.  As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.  Ant: Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, O Lord, and I shall be cleansed; Though shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

(The Gloria Patri is omitted in Passiontide)

V.  Show us, O Lord, Thy mercy. (Alleluia.)

R.  And grant us Thy salvation. (Alleluia.)

V.  O Lord, hear my prayer.
