The Priest pours wine into the chalice. The Priest then pronounces the following prayer, making the sign of the cross over the cruet containing water (except in Masses of the Dead when the prayer is read without the blessing). The Priest then pours a small amount of water into the chalice :
EUS,
Amen.
GOD,
Who,
in creating human nature, did wonderfully dignify it, and still more wonderfully restore it, grant that by the Mystery of this
water and wine, we may be made partakers of His divine nature, Who vouchsafed to be made partaker of our human nature, even
Jesus Christ, our Lord, Thy Son: Who with Thee, lives and reigns in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God: world without end. Amen.
