The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

1st Class - 15th August - White Vestments

Mary was cared for by Saint John for twelve years after our Lord's Resurrection. Her life was spent in helping the Apostles and in praying for the conversion of the world. On the third day after Mary's death, when the Apostles gathered around her tomb, they found it empty. The sacred body had been carried up to the celestial paradise. Jesus Himself came to conduct her thither; the whole court of heaven came to welcome with songs of triumph the Mother of the Divine Word.

This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain. Tu glória Jerúsalem, tu lætítia Israël, tu honorificéntia pópuli nostri.

THE LORD hath blessed thee by His power, because by thee He hath brought our enemies to nought. Blessed art thou, O daughter, by the Lord the most high God, above all women upon the earth. Blessed be the Lord, who made heaven and earth, who hath directed thee to the cutting off the head of the prince of our enemies; because He hath so magnified thy name this day, that thy praise shall not depart out of the mouth of men who shall be mindful of the power of the Lord, forever: for that thou hast not spared thy life, by reason of the distress and tribulation of thy people; but hast prevented our ruin in the presence of our God. Gospel (Luke 1, 41-50)

+ Sequéntia sancti Evangélii secúndum Lucam.

+ Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke.

This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain.

AT THAT time, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: and she cried out with a loud voice and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord. This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain. And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord: and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour; because He hath regarded the humility of His handmaid: for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Because He that is mighty hath done great things to me, and holy is His name, and His mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear Him.

Offertory (Genesis 3, 15)

I WILL PUT enmities between thee and the Woman, and between thy seed and her Seed.

Preface of the Blessed Virgin Mary ("Et te in Assumptione")

This Preface is said on the feast of the Blessed Virgin, when the rubrics require the words “Et te in Assumptione” to be inserted into the prayer.

This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain.

IT IS TRULY meet and just, right and availing unto salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: and on the Assumption of the blessed Mary, ever a virgin, should praise and bless and proclaim Thee. For she conceived Thine only-begotten Son by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost; and losing not the glory of her virginity, gave to the world the everlasting light, Jesus Christ our Lord. This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain. Through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, and the powers are in awe. The heavens and the heavenly hosts, and the blessed seraphim join together in celebrating their joy. With these we pray Thee join our own voices also, while we say with lowly praise: Holy, Holy, Holy...

Communion (Luke 1, 48-49)

BEATAM ME dicent omnes generatiónes, quia fecit mihi magna qui potens est.

ALL GENERATIONS shall call me blessed, because He that is mighty hath done great things to me.
