The Feast of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Commemoration of Ss Timotheus, Hippolytus and Symphorian, Martyrs

2nd Class - 22nd August - White Vestments

Mary began her journey along the road to perfection at a height to which other Saints arrived only at the end of a long life of saintliness. In all other children of Adam original sin prevented the divine generosity from having a free course. But Mary was created immaculate, and therefore the grace of God streamed into her soul without check of hindrance. Her sinlessness, her heavenly purity, directed every action, every movement to God. Her Heart was the pattern and model of all virtues, of all purity. Saints Timotheus, Hippolytus, and Sumphorian, although commemorated together, suffered in different persecutions: Timotheus under Maximian, Bishop Hippolytus under Alexander and the youth Symphorian under Aurelian.

Lesson (Ecclesiasticus 24, 23-31)

Léctio libri Sapiéntiæ.

Lesson from the Book of Wisdom.

EGO QUASI vitis fructificávi suavitátem odóris: et flores mei, fructus honóris et honestátis. Ego mater pulchræ dilectiónis, et timóris, et agnitiónis, et sanctæ spei. In me grátia omnis viæ et veritátis: in me omnis spes vitæ et virtútis. Transíte ad me omnes qui concupíscitis me, et a generatiónibus meis implémini. This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain. Memória mea in generatiónes sæculórum. Qui edunt me, adhuc esúrient: et qui bibunt me, adhuc sítient. Qui audit me, non confundétur: et qui operántur in me, non peccábunt. Qui elúcidant me, vitam ætérnam habébunt.

AS THE VINE I have brought forth a pleasant odour, and my flowers are the fruit of honour and riches. I am the mother of fair love, and of fear, and of knowledge, and of holy hope. In me is all grace of the way and of the truth, in me is all hope of life and of virtue. Come over to me, all ye that desire me, and be filled with my fruits; for my spirit is sweet above honey, and my inheritance above honey and the honeycomb. This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain. My memory is unto everlasting generations. They that eat me, shall yet hunger; and they that drink me, shall yet thirst. He that harkeneth to me shall not be confounded, and they that work by me shall not sin. They that explain me shall have life everlasting.

Gradual (Psalm 12, 6)

EXSULTÁBIT cor meum in salutári tuo: cantábo Dómino qui bona tríbuit mihi: et psallam nómini Dómini altíssimi. V. Ps. 44, 18. Mémores erunt nóminis tui: in omni generatióne et generatiónem: Proptérea pópuli confitebúntur tibi in ætérnum.

MY HEART shall rejoice in thy salvation: I will sing to the Lord, who giveth me good things: yea I will sing to the name of the Lord the most high. This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain. V. Ps. 44, 18. They shall remember Thy name throughout all generations. Therefore shall people praise thee for ever: yea, for ever and ever.

Gospel (John 19, 25-27)

+ Sequentia sancti Evangelii secundum Lucam.

+ Continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke.

IN ILLO témpore: Stabant juxta crucem Jesu mater ejus, et soror matris ejus María Cléophæ, et María Magdaléne. Cum vidísset ergo Jesus matrem, et discípulum stantem, quem diligébat, dicit matri suæ: Múlier, ecce fílius tuus. This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain.

AT THAT time, there stood by the cross of Jesus, His mother, and His mother's sister Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen. When Jesus therefore had seen His mother and the disciple standing, whom He had loved, He said to His mother, Woman, behold thy son. This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain. After that He saith to the disciple, Behold thy mother. And from that hour the disciple took her to his own.

Offertory (John 19, 26, 27)

MY SPIRIT hath rejoiced in God my Saviour; because He that is mighty hath done great things to me: and holy is His name.

Preface of the Blessed Virgin Mary ("Et te in Festivitate")

This Preface is said on the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where the rubrics require the words “Et te in Festivitate” to be inserted into the prayer.

This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain.

IT IS TRULY meet and just, right and availing unto salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: and on the Festivity of the blessed Mary, ever a virgin, should praise and bless and proclaim Thee. For she conceived Thine only-begotten Son by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost; and losing not the glory of her virginity, gave to the world the everlasting light, Jesus Christ our Lord. This text copied without authorisation from the SSPX website for Great Britain. Through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, and the powers are in awe. The heavens and the heavenly hosts, and the blessed seraphim join together in celebrating their joy. With these we pray Thee join our own voices also, while we say with lowly praise: Holy, Holy, Holy...
