Prayers before the Gospel

http://www.sspx.co.uk/images/stories/masspics/mass21.jpg

Bowing profoundly before the altar, the Priest prepares himself to preach the Gospel with the prayer " Munda cor meum " ("Cleanse my heart and my lips") and then asks for a blessing with the words " Jube, Domine, benedicere " ("Pray, Lord, a blessing").

At a Solemn Mass the Deacon kneels at the top step of the altar to recite the "Munda cor meum" and asks the Priest for a blessing with the words "Jube, Domne, Benedicere" ("Pray, Sir, a blessing") to which the Priest responds " Dominus sit in corde tuo " ("May the Lord be in thine heart...").

During this preparation, the altar servers assemble before the altar with the missal, incense and candles.
