The Credo

On Sundays and major festivals the Priest returns to the centre of t

he altar and intones the first words of the Credo: " Credo in unum Deum " ("I believe in One God...").  The Priest continues to read the Creed while the choir and congregation sing the remainder of the hymn.

The Creed is of ancient origin and a guarantee of belief against heresy.  It was codified by the Council of Nicea in AD 325 and revised by the Council of Constantinople in AD 381.
