Incensing of the Priest

Returning the thurible to the Master of Ceremonies (or the Deacon at Solemn Mass) the Priest recites the prayer " Accendat in nobis " ("May the Lord enkindle within us the fire of His love...").

The Priest is then incensed, followed by the servers and then the faithful.  As a mark of courtesy and filial love, each incensation is preceded and followed by a bow, first from by the thurifer and then by the person(s) being incensed.

The "Lavabo" or Washing of Hands

Meanwhile, a server pours water over the Priest's fingers as he recites Psalm 25, verses 6-12: " Lavabo inter innocentes " ("I will wash my hands among the innocent...").  The server offers a small linen towel for the Priest to dry his fingers.
